The Benefits of Western History Association Membership
If you’re a student of the western United States, you may be interested in becoming a member of the Western History Association. WHA membership is a great way to meet other Western history enthusiasts, network with academic historians, and promote the study of western history. However, you don’t have to be a professor or an author to become a member of the WHA. You can join any chapter in any state and receive its quarterly newsletter.
You can also join as a non-voting member and receive exclusive membership benefits. You can join the WHA by mailing a membership application. The application process is easy, and you can join at any time. You can join online, through the mail, or at the association’s office in Omaha, Nebraska. Western history is one of the most fascinating subject areas, and becoming a member of the WHA will give you access to a wealth of information and resources.
If you’re interested in learning about the western United States, a WHA membership can give you access to the Western Historical Quarterly, a scholarly journal published twice a year. It features articles by leading western historians and book reviews. Membership includes access to the WHA Newsletter and the Western Historical Quarterly. Additionally, you’ll be able to participate in WHA events and receive the quarterly newsletter. Western History Association membership is an excellent way to learn about new research, share your knowledge, and meet other Western history enthusiasts.
If you’re an archivist, consider joining the Society of American Archivists, a member of the Western History Association. You can volunteer as a member in this organization. The society’s awards and publications committee will recognize your volunteer service and accomplishments. It’s also helpful to participate in a Western Trail project to raise awareness of the trail. In addition to promoting the Western Trail, you can participate in a wide range of other Western history activities, such as speaking to civic organizations, or preparing a visual application to a tourist organization.
Another great option for historical research is to become a member of the Society for the History of Women in the Americas. This organization has several purposes. It seeks to stimulate interest in American history, improve the status of women in the history profession, and promote equal treatment among historians. Its mission statement says that the Western History Association is committed to encouraging the study of the American West. All members are welcome to join and benefit from its resources.
Another excellent organization for historians is the Coalition for Western Women’s History (CWWH). The Coalition for Western Women’s History was founded in 1990 and has since grown to include women in history. The organization sponsors panels and events at the annual conference, provides research materials and establishes strong networks of historians. Its website also offers opportunities for networking and mentoring. While you’re at the conference, consider joining the organization to get more involved with history.
