A Guide to Western History
Western history is often thought of as the story of the West’s evolution beyond the Islamic world and ancient Greeks. However, that is not true. The West grew to great heights through the Second Agricultural Revolution, the Commercial Revolution, and the Scientific Revolution. It grew even more with the Industrial Revolution and Age of Enlightenment in the eighteenth century, when the Western world was still mostly dominated by Catholic nations.
Western history can be categorized by its various periods and themes. The Weimar Republic bridges the interwar period of German history to the rise of Nazi Germany, and it attempted to achieve “western democracy” despite opposition from both the conservative right and the communist left. During the Second World War, the Weimar Republic failed, and this textbook traces the events that led up to the Second World War. Although the Third Reich is an area that is not covered in this book, it provides a good overview of the major historical events.
The development of Western civilization began in the Mediterranean and Europe, with links to the Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire, and Medieval Western Christendom. From these roots, Western civilization underwent the Renaissance, Reformation, and Enlightenment, as well as the Industrial Revolution. This is the time when the Western world began its development as a liberal democracy. It was also the first major civilisation to abolish slavery in the nineteenth century, and it became the first to enfranchise women in Australasia. Modern societies are increasingly dependent on technology, and the West has contributed to many of these advances.
Western history has a long and complex history, replete with controversies, and conflict. It has a rich, diverse past and is a dynamic part of our collective heritage. The association encourages educators to consider all aspects of western history, including its Frontiers, Homelands, and Western Borderlands. The association also promotes the teaching of history as an essential part of education. The mission of the WHA is to create an environment that fosters learning and exploration, and fosters the exchange of ideas.
The official journal of the Western History Association, The Legacy of Conquest: The two books are an excellent guide to understanding the history of the western world. Both of these volumes are comprehensive and include original scholarly articles on the development of the region during the twentieth century. The chapters cover topics such as Native American history, twentieth-century regional studies, and the rise of European and Japanese nationalism. The textbook also includes a bibliography of recent articles.
The WHA has policies for its conferences, activities, and other WHA-related business. The association encourages a respectful environment and rejects harassment, retaliation, and sexual harassment.
